World Cancer Day is held globally every February 4. This initiative was started by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) to raise awareness, improve education and promote action to help reduce the worldwide impact of cancer.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), at least half of the world’s population lacks access to essential health services, resulting in many cancer patients being denied basic care. This equity gap goes beyond geographical location—income, education and discrimination in many forms all contribute.
For 2023, the World Cancer Day’s theme is “Close the Care Gap” to put the focus on the progress being made to remove these barriers and expand healthcare services to everyone. To learn more about World Cancer Day and find ways you can take action, click here.
