World No Tobacco Day, celebrated each year on May 31, draws attention to the dangers of using tobacco. Studies show that tobacco use harms nearly every organ of the body and can cause everything from cancer to cataracts to rheumatoid arthritis.
This year, the World Health Organization has launched the “Grow food, not tobacco” campaign in honor of World No Tobacco Day 2023. Some of the campaign’s objectives focus on mobilizing governments to end tobacco-growing subsidies and encourage the tobacco-farming communities to transition to growing sustainable crops.
