Manager Tips: Model the Habits of Highly Effective Leaders
Empower your team members to create and maintain healthy habits simply by practicing healthy habits yourself. What type of habits are you modeling for your team?
Here are some habits to pursue to become a more effective leader:
- Identify and change unhealthy habits you may be modeling in front of your team, such as joining meetings late, working long hours or drinking sugary drinks in meetings.
- During team and one-on-one meetings, share WellBeingAtAECOM.com and AECOM University resources that can help your team create healthy habits. Consider recommending resources as part of your safety and well-being moments at the start or end of your meetings.
- Help build trusting relationships on your team by discussing unhealthy habits you’re trying to break or healthy habits you’re trying to create, including tips you’ve found helpful. Encourage your team members to share, too. (This could also be well-being moment!)
- Get into the habit of promoting open communication, opportunities for growth and active listening on your team.
- Build a habit of gratitude on your team — lead by example and encourage your team members to show appreciation for their colleagues and recognize achievements through the Kudos program, AECOM’s service award and informal social recognition program.
