The correct answer is: 68%
While nature can be powerful, it also requires care. Our ecosystem is currently at risk with the temperature rising, deforestation, bodies of water drying and different species going extinct. In fact, our wildlife populations have decreased by 68% since 1970, and continue to shrink. Our collective actions are taking a toll on the environment — and yet, we’re the only ones that can help restore it. Take a deep, fresh breath of air and then dive into these steps to do your part to protect our planet.
- Assess. Find out what you don’t know:
- Educate yourself on what’s happening with the planet around the world.
- Take the planet health assessment to understand how environmentally conscious you are.
- Advocate for change. Use your voice:
- Spread awareness through social media by posting information and photos using #MyMomentToBeWell, and share your insights with the Global Well-Being Community.
- Use your right to vote, write to your local politicians and host community events to build awareness in your local community around environmental policies.
- Act. Do your part:
- Travel sustainably: in addition to substituting your car for a walk or bike ride on local commutes, research alternative transit for longer commutes — such as taking a train instead of a plane. Or, consider taking a holiday or vacation to a closer destination to reduce your carbon footprint.
- Live sustainably: shop wisely by being a mindful consumer (that is, supporting businesses that have made a commitment to conservation), recycle and reduce your plastic and food waste, monitor your water and energy consumption and reuse what you have. For example, reduce one-time use of materials by buying reusable items such as cloth bags, cups and straws, and repurposing or donating clothes. A little investment upfront can save the planet, and you financially, over time.
- Consider moving to a more plant-based diet, such as a vegetarian or vegan diet, or try a flexitarian diet if you don’t want to give up meat entirely. One of the most significant contributors to deforestation is the expansion of agriculture for feeding animals that will be used for meat distribution and producing soy. By moving to a more plant-based diet, you can help protect the planet and lower your carbon footprint.
- Donate to a global environmental charity and volunteer your time for park, river or beach cleanup.
