Manager Tips: Build Resilience
Change — and the challenge that comes with it — is inevitable in organizations, as well as in life. By building resilience, we can equip ourselves and our teams to deal with change in a healthy way, and even grow from change.
Here are some ways you and your team can build resilience:
- Promote a healthy balance between work and life. The more we build in time for things that relax and recharge us, like family and self-care, the better we’ll be able to focus and manage demanding or unexpected tasks. Establish a healthy balance for yourself, and support your teams as they explore their own freedom to grow.
- Start your meetings with meditation. At the beginning of team meetings, take a couple minutes for everyone to close their eyes for a quick moment of meditation. Taking a pause to get centered can help improve focus and problem-solving.
- Celebrate growth. We have all experienced adversity and challenges in our life that have made us stronger. Find ways to recognize growth by remembering past experiences you’ve successfully navigated that seemed overwhelming at the time. Share your story with your team and encourage others to share their own. Acknowledging our abilities to manage life’s challenges helps us prepare for the next challenge ahead.
- Maintain your well-being routine. It’s no secret people often get sick during times of high stress. Strengthen your immunity by exercising regularly, sleeping well and eating healthy. Check in with your employees to make sure they are caring for their well-being, especially when they are managing new responsibilities or heavy workloads.
- Get support. Build a support system around you and be willing to ask for help and guidance during difficult times. Get to know the resources available through the GuidanceResources EAP and share with employees who may be going through financial or emotional challenges, or experiencing stress or anxiety.
