October 10 is World Mental Health Day, a time to raise awareness of mental health issues affecting people around the world.
This year’s theme is “mental health is a human right.” People with mental health conditions tend to experience higher rates of poor physical health and reduced life expectancy. In addition, the stigma of mental health issues is a significant determinate in quality of care and access to the full range of services required to treat many mental health disorders.
Honor World Mental Health Day by educating yourself and spreading awareness to your community. Here are some activity ideas:
- Perform a random act of kindness, like giving a shout out to a coworker with Kudos.
- Check in with your family and friends. The stigma behind mental health issues is one of the biggest barriers that prevent people from reaching out for help.
- Speak with a Global Mental Health Ally for a trusted resource who will listen nonjudgmentally and connect you with AECOM resources that can help.
- Be a superhero and share your emotional well-being story to tip in the Super 6 Global Well-Being Challenge.
- Understand how maintaining good preventive mental health is just as important as physical preventive health and find AECOM benefits and resources to support your journey.
- Learn about mental health issues, conditions and AECOM benefits that support your well-being with the AECOM University: Mental Health Matters.
