Good mental health is an important part of our well-being. Many of us know someone who has been affected by mental health issues in some form, whether it’s a neighbor, colleague, loved one or ourselves. No matter the circumstance, knowing there is someone out there to listen and lean on in those times is important. Reaching out to someone who is struggling can provide hope and even save a life.
September 10 is World Suicide Prevention Day. An estimated 700,000+ people die due to suicide each year1, prompting the International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP) and the World Health Organization (WHO) to come together to establish World Suicide Prevention Day (WSPD)in 2003. This day focuses on one message: Suicide can be prevented.
This year’s theme is “Creating Hope Through Action” – encouraging us to become a beacon of light to those in pain by increasing our understanding and sharing experiences with each other.
