Neurodiversity Celebration Week (NCW) is a global initiative that challenges the stereotypes and misconceptions around those who are neurodivergent. The annual event celebrates their individual talents while also creating an environment of equity and inclusivity. This year, NCW takes place March 18-24.
The term “neurodiversity” describes the differences between the way people’s brains work. The idea is that there’s no “correct” way for the brain to work. Instead, there is a wide range of ways that people perceive and respond to the world, and these differences are to be embraced and encouraged.1 Common conditions include ADHD, autism and dyslexia.
Here are some ways you can join in and help change the narrative on neurodiversity:
- Educate yourself on what “neurodivergent” means, the conditions that a neurodivergent person may have and how you can support someone who is neurodivergent.
- Sign up on the official Neurodiversity Celebration Week website to stay up to date on all of the events taking place and find out how you can join in.
- Learn about the benefits of neurodiversity in the workplace and how you can help change the perception in your own office.
- Get the conversation started. Chat with your colleagues in the Global Well-Being Community about your own experiences with neurodiversity, share tips on how you’re getting involved and inspire others to do the same.
