« BROWN SCAR » – Nostalgic feelings aren’t always pleasant but they teach us valuable lessons for Life. When my daughter was a small seven-year-old girl, she was rejected by the music teacher who was selecting students for the school’s annual day. She was rejected despite her sweet voice but for the petty reason that her complexion was dark as they were selecting fair-skinned students as makeup will not be a problem. This made a lasting impact on her, and it took many years to raise back her confidence, which she lost. Yes! Ignoring or avoiding the topic isn’t protecting children, it’s leaving them exposed to bias that exists wherever we live. Children who encounter racism can be left feeling lost while trying to understand why they are being treated a certain way, which in turn can impact their long-term development and well-being. The tongue is creative power. It has the capacity to make or mar, create or destroy, build or shatter.

The incident taught her two valuable lessons.
Never allow others to judge you or never lose your confidence because they don’t value you. Treat everyone equally, color is just a shade that is skin deep. Look inside the inner personality.

Appearance might be misleading. Beauty lies in the eyes of the Beholder, it’s their inner character that lasts the test of time. So, try to develop it and spread happiness to the world. But over a period of time, she learned that it is her own battle after all and vowed to fight it out. I gave her the desired space to process for as long as she needed, as long as she felt better at least.

Not everything we face can be changed, yet nothing can be changed until it’s faced eventually.

Social Well-Being

For those who live in daydreams…..

No matter what happens, in this world of anger, envy, ego and blame, without proper appreciation and a good guide, stress and fatigue will increase and we will imagine our desires like a movie and get lost in it. It gives us some kind of temporary relief and happiness. But if we do it again and again and think that temporary happiness is good, we become slaves to our imagination. This is why many of us introverts lack the maturity and courage to face or approach people in the real world. For example, when a school student does not study properly, when he is scolded without proper guidance and encouragement, he is mentally affected and finally imagines his desire. In it he imagines himself as the best student and everyone’s favorite. In his fantasy world he imagines that all the girls in his class like him. It gives him a kind of addiction, so he often imagines such strange situations and imagines himself to be the best in them. This is his hobby and he likes to spend a lot of time alone. As a result, he becomes a slave in that imaginary world and remains forever absorbed in some fantasy. You may think that this is all there is but he lives and lives in the fantasy world and is happy with the fantasy without facing any difficult situation. As a result, his ability to resist suffering gradually diminishes. Eventually he becomes less mature and less courageous in facing or approaching people in the real world and that turns into fear. We are all like him. When some suffering comes and we live in fantasy without facing it, we become a coward and unable to face anything in real life.

When traveling on a bus, we hesitate to even ask the conductor for change.

Even if there is a crowded store, « What’s so crowded? Let’s go to another store! » You might think that it’s crowded. It may seem that you are saying this as a big deal, but in reality, those who live in this imaginary world are not worried about standing in the crowd.
Reluctance to even approach ordinary people, which eventually turns into fear.
Mainly, even when a man is walking alone on the road, if two women come in front of him, he can’t face them and keeps his eyes fixed somewhere and moves quickly away from that place… In their fantasy world, a man is brave but they don’t have the courage to show it in person. Because this is the difference between reality and fantasy. Fictional heroes are those who are used to not facing adversity when it comes.

Just remember one thing you may think fantasy is comfortable but a poor man may live in fantasy world of being very rich but in reality his family is languishing in poverty. For those who live in the fantasy world, eternity seems like hell in real life, so whatever work they do, they imagine something without paying attention to it.
So no matter what you are in your dreams, you are a normal person in reality, so leave your imagination and travel in the real world. Because now if you willingly and slowly come out of your comfort zone and face adversity then you will be able to face whatever adversity comes your way. But because you stayed that way, one day this life will kick you out of that fantasy world. Then great suffering will come..but you will not be able to face it and the stress will increase…it will increase and increase and will put you on the edge of the peak of stress..you will be forced to commit suicide to get rid of its grip. Face it and don’t imagine it……but one day you will be kicked out of it…it is better to get up instead…..

Although I was active as a teen and in my twenties, I found that in my 30-50s I really slacked off on activity. My joints were aching, and I hated moving, getting down on my knees, etc. In late 2019 I watched a friend compete in a long-range rifle competition (Precision Rifle Series) and knew it was something I wanted to do to. But how was I to do this with all the movement and speed and strength required? To make a story short: I committed. I joined a small studio that focuses on lifting heavy weights and one that is just for women. Through this commitment, I work out 4 days regularly and watch my diet. Not only did I gain the mobility I needed by building muscle to take the strain off my joints, but I lost 30 pounds (and have kept if off for 2 years). I am a regular PRS competitor and won my first top 3 trophy this last weekend shooting out to 1100 yards. It was a huge accomplishment for me (even though it was a seniors-only match-LOL). I continue to get stronger and stay committed to my training and to my new hobby.

Be Deaf to Negativity around you !!!

In a small village, two frogs accidentally fall in a deep well. All the frogs of the village surround the well and keep shouting that they’re never gonna be able to come out because the well is so deep.
Both the frogs try hard to get out and jump incessantly. The frogs outside keep talking among themselves that their effort is going to end in vain – it’s an impossible task to come out.
One of two frogs gets tired of jumping and gives up. The other frog keeps jumping. The frogs outside wonder why he’s still jumping, they are confused why he doesn’t realize it’s not going to work.
The frog who gave up tries convincing the other frog to give up but he doesn’t listen, he keeps jumping. Finally, he jumps with his full strength and comes out of the well leaving the other frog behind.
When he comes out of the well, all the frogs ask him, « How were you able to do this, didn’t you hear what we said – it was impossible! » He didn’t reply and went away.
You know why he didn’t? Because, he was deaf!
He wasn’t even listening to others. Not everyone is born as lucky. Learn to ignore the negativity around you and listen to the voice within. If it says you can, then you certainly can. Who else is to decide?

Sometimes it’s simply about encouraging others! There are some very special ladies in my life who would personally admit that they aren’t 100% the athletic type – you know, the type who are unmotivated to work out on their own, but willing with others. They like many others have the passion, but not necessarily the drive. To motivate them to get in some outdoors exercise with a little fun/challenge, I asked them to join me on a terrain 5k run this past weekend. I thought I would have had to beg and plead with them, but to my surprise, they happily signed up. We had such a great time climbing over walls, crawling through mud, swinging on ropes, and most of all making great memories together all while pushing ourselves physically. Again, sometimes it’s simply about encouraging others. I say, let’s all be encouragers!!

Usually, I am not good at writing stories, but I am gonna give it an attempt and talk about my Favorite Man.

Once upon a time, there lived a boy in a small village in Tirunelveli (South Tamilnadu, India). His Father was a farmer who didn’t work for money but instead worked for food cause back in that time the ultimate aim for the human being used to be to afford 3 square meals a day and shelter to live in.

Unfortunately, one day his mother passed away due to an unknown illness. For many days he and his father used to spend time at the cemetery reminiscing about her at an extreme by not eating food and sleeping at times at the cemetery. His uncle seeing their situation decided to take care of the boy himself by taking him to his village and getting him educated to which his father agreed. After a year the boy joined the school to start his education.

Four years later, upon reaching 4th standard the uncle decided to get married. Owing a small cycle mechanic shop wasn’t sufficient to take care of all the members of the family, hence the boy quit school to help him. The boy and his uncle worked together day and night to earn a stable income source for the family. Years later, the boy who grew into a young man got married to a beautiful woman. Unfortunately, the uncle decided to kick him out of the business. After years of hard work, he had to begin again from scratch but this time in Madurai, Tamilnadu. He got a job selling Aluminum vessels on the roads and streets for a meager income.

Today this man is the owner of Rathna Harini Vessels Stores in Madurai which is a prominent shop for all aluminum vessels and products, and he is my father.

It took 25 years for my father to achieve this. My father worked relentlessly throughout the day despite the scorching heat primarily to educate me and my other brothers and that’s the beauty of hard work it always returns with additional benefits.

Today I, Muthu Ganesh Soundararajan, DCE, BE., Assistant Manager CAD, Geotechnical have been working with AECOM for the last 10 years.

My Elder Brother, Mr. Rajarathinam Soundararajan, M.com. is a Head Constable at Tamilnadu Prison Police. Also, he was recently felicitated by Chief Minister as the best cop.

My Younger Brother, Mr. Mithun Kumar Soundararajan, DME, works as a Business Development Manager at Safi Steel Traders in Madurai.

It was his hard work in the past that has helped all my brothers including me to achieve whatever today we are in our lives. My father also ensured our well-being in all aspects such as Financial, Physical, Social and Emotional.
Before each Wellbeing Child there is a Wellbeing Parent.

Ps. He still beats us at mental math hands down.

Hi Friends…!!! A small story to stay motivated
You might have heard the story of Rabbit and Turtle having a race…Most of us might have heard only 1 part of it, but it has 4 parts to it…
Part 1: Rabbit and Turtle indulge in a race, rabbit runs fast initially, sleeps in the mid-way out of overconfidence and Turtle wins the race – Message – « SLOW & STEADY WINS THE RACE ».
Now listen to Part 2: Rabbit gets irritated by this act and asks Turtle for another race. This time Rabbit becomes mindful of his earlier mistake, runs all along and wins the race – Message – « BE MINDFUL OF YOUR MISTAKES, DON’T REPEAT THEM. »
Now Part 3: After Part 2, both Rabbit and Turtle get motivated. Turtle asks Rabbit for a race again, but Turtle says in a different track/route. Rabbit starts the race and has to stop in between, because there is a river passing by. Turtle comes slowly, crosses the river and wins the race. – Message – « MAKE YOUR STRATEGIES ACCORDING TO YOUR STRENGTHS. »
Now Part 4 (The last One): This time around, Rabbit and Turtle make up for a friendly match in the same track adopted in Part 3 (the river one). The race goes this way, on land, rabbit carries Turtle, and, in the river, Turtle carries rabbit. Both of them together finish the race in quick time. – Message – « MAKE FRIENDS IN SUCH A WAY WHOSE STRENGTHS ARE YOUR WEAKNESS. THIS KEEPS YOU MOTIVATED AND ALSO MAKES THE JOURNEY EASIER. »
Thank You.

Physical Well-Being

After living an even more sedentary life during Covid I committed to participate in more activities that require movement, like walking, jogging, and riding a bicycle. After starting off the year with some fieldwork, I continued to find ways to stay more active in the spring with a wellness team competition, earning steps each day. After the competition was over, I worked with the telephone nursing coaches to set a goal for participation in a 5K event. I spent several weeks following a training schedule and enjoyed running in a 5k race near the end of Summer. A few small changes to breakfast choices and being a little more active has helped me to burn off about 20 pounds of unneeded weight this year.

Emotional Well-Being Physical Well-Being

I committed to run 100 miles in August to help raise money for the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity. This is a charity close to my heart as they have taken wonderful care of my Dad over the last 13 years since he was first diagnosed with cancer in 2009. It was my Dad’s 70th birthday this August and when he asked for donations to the Royal Marsden instead of birthday gifts I had the idea of trying to raise some more money for the hospital and decided to run 100 miles over the month of August.

I was very aware of the commitment required for the challenge, as I enjoy running but don’t always do it regularly. I realised that I needed to be sensible if I wanted to avoid injury or burnout and was worried about how I would fit it all in, with 2 young children and working 4 days a week.

I started to look after myself. I improved my diet, no longer living mainly on coffee and junk treats from my kitchen cupboard… I ate a decent breakfast, took vitamin supplements and drank pre/post run protein shakes. Using our Freedom to Grow culture I fit runs in between meetings, no longer sitting at my desk for 8 straight hours each day.

And in a short space of time, I noticed positive results. I slept better, I looked better, my concentration and focus improved. I really enjoyed my runs; that time alone became my time to myself to destress and evaluate the goings on in my head. My energy, fitness and stamina improved. I reached the 100 mile target in 3 weeks and decided to just keep running, managing 130 miles in total.

In the end, I raised over £7500 for the charity. But there was an additional unintended benefit for my mental and physical wellbeing which improved hugely and was noticed by my friends and family. I have since kept up the running at least 3 times a week and am signing up for a half-marathon. So, I urge anyone wanting to try something outside of their comfort zone, don’t be put off – give it a go!

Hi, I’m Jane from AECOM Shanghai office Administration Department in China. I would like to share my Super Story with you all.

I am a cycling enthusiast. The spiritual enjoyment that riding brings to me is unparalleled. It makes me love life, embrace nature, and be born to the sun.

Here, I would like to share with you my riding story during the National Day holiday from October 2nd to October 5th.

The « Suzhou-Nanjing » cycling trip, which had been planned since the beginning of this year, was put on hold until the National Day holiday due to the epidemic.

I will give myself a gift every year, and this year is no exception. This gift is about courage, persistence, challenge, and love.

With a few beliefs, I started this long ride:

1. Some things have to be done once in a lifetime! Now that you have an idea, you can implement it, and if it is within the range your body can bear, then go try it out!

2. The greatest charm of sports lies in the challenge of breaking through the limits oneself! You never know how great your potential is, only beyond. Outdoor sports are more intimate contact with nature and the world, making people happy and open-minded.

3. In this world, only mountains, rivers, lakes, seas, sun, moon, and stars can’t be let down! We live on this unique planet, and it’s so beautiful! If you have time, look at the sky, the starry sky, the sea, and the world.

The first ride: Suzhou – Wuxi

The first section starts from Suzhou Bay Grand Theater and arrives at Wuxi Canal West Road. The mileage of this section is kept at 60 kilometers and takes 5 hours and 34 minutes.

On the first day of riding, I encountered a high temperature of 35 degrees. Riding in the hot sun is really tough. Fortunately, all sun protection measures are done well, so as not to get sunburned.

The journey from Suzhou to Wuxi will take a long time to ride in Suzhou. This must praise the road of Suzhou, it is really amazing! It’s so comfortable to ride! 90% of the road sections have cycling lanes, with abundant greenery on both sides of the road and pleasant scenery. And the riding path is spacious and has no potholes. There are few cars on the road, and there are not many large cars, which is really great! I have to give a thumbs-up to Suzhou!

I thought it was a lonely trip, but I never expected to see a lot of pedestrians riding on the road. While resting in a small supermarket, everyone exchanged ideas about where they came from, how long they had been riding, and so on. When I heard the « beginner among the beginners », I was startled and lamented that the cycling circle was so « inwardly rolled ». It turns out that everyone is running in the direction of 200,300 kilometers 😂 They also encouraged me: never underestimate yourself!

I sincerely thank the workers I met on the road. They saw me squatting on the side of the road to rest, and they even gave me a bottle of water to drink. I sincerely thank the kind people.

The second ride: Wuxi-Changzhou

From Wuxi Nanchang Street to Changzhou Canal West Road. This section of the « walker » recorded 40 kilometers and took 3 hours and 35 minutes in total.

This section of the road is very easy to ride, but the 40-degree scorching sun is in the sky, which is very difficult. After arriving in Wuxi, the ride along West Canal Road is very comfortable. The Wuxi section of the Grand Canal is pleasant and I really like it. It is the most comfortable road for riding on National Highway 312.

The third ride: Changzhou-Danyang

Starting from Lanling North Road, Changzhou, to Danyang High-tech Zone. This section of the « walker » recorded 43 kilometers and took a total of 4 hours and 23 minutes.

This is the toughest of all, as most of the roads are on State Route 312. On the national road, there are a lot of big trucks, tankers, and containers, and there is no isolation fence on the non-motorized vehicle lane, so it is very dangerous⚠️When the big truck whizzes past you, it is frightening. Next time I won’t ride the national road again, it’s really too dangerous.

In addition, it was raining heavily this day. Fortunately, I wore waterproof clothes and waterproof pants all over my body, so that I would not get wet at all over the body, but it was already dead. This riding experience is simply described as « painful ». So I gave up decisively and finally stopped at a gas station in Danyang High-tech Zone.

I have to thank the kind people on the road, who took me in for a cup of hot water, and the truck driver who took me from Danyang gas station⛽️ to Nanjing.

This is the end of my Nanjing trip 🔚. Cycling from Suzhou to Danyang, a total of 143 kilometers, a total of 13 hours. I want to commemorate Nanjing with this
long-distance ride, as well as the people during that time.

So often people associate cycling with meeting only a « physical need » for fitness. Your trip explains why cycling is so much more to so many people; you are connecting with others, you are moving as part of your environment (not inside of a box looking out), moving at a pace that allows you to connect with nature better, and figuring out new challenges to overcome and grow from as a cyclist and a person. Great read!

Equality and Equity
Recently I was asked to give a presentation at a small team building seminar and I decided to talk about Equity, Diversity and Inclusion. One thing I did get some positive feedback from is the image I used to try and illustrate the difference between Equality and Equity.
I think the image explains it quite well.
In basic terms Equality is when everyone gets the exact same help no matter their individual needs and Equity means that the level of help is assessed for the individual needs.
Some people may need more help than others and some may need a completely different approach altogether.
Very rarely is there a « one size fits all » solution to everyday problems.

« Good Food does not only fill the stomach, it fills the heart too. »

I decided to make sourdough bread at home to teach my kids a few life lessons:

1. Save money, do it yourself.
Sometimes you can make good food at home. All you need is the will and the ingredients. Sourodugh bread can be very expensive, so why not take the time to make it yourself from scratch.

2. Tradition is best
Novelty is great and convenient, but the best things are those that have stood the test of time. Sourdough originated in Ancient Egypt, so it’s thousands of years old and yet people still go crazy for it.

3. Making healthy food is also fun.

4. Plan before you act.
Making bread is fun, but getting the proportions right is important.

5. All good things take time. Patience is a virtue.
Waiting days to make the starter from scratch, and hours for the dough to rise takes patience. Sometimes you can’t fast-track, you just need to wait.

6. Everything tastes better if you put some love into it.
