“Good Food does not only fill the stomach, it fills the heart too.”

I decided to make sourdough bread at home to teach my kids a few life lessons:

1. Save money, do it yourself.
Sometimes you can make good food at home. All you need is the will and the ingredients. Sourdough bread can be very expensive, so why not take the time to make it yourself from scratch.

2. Tradition is best
Novelty is great and convenient, but the best things are those that have stood the test of time. Sourdough originated in Ancient Egypt, so it’s thousands of years old and yet people still go crazy for it.

3. Making healthy food is also fun.

4. Plan before you act.
Making bread is fun, but getting the proportions right is important.

5. All good things take time. Patience is a virtue.
Waiting days to make the starter from scratch, and hours for the dough to rise takes patience. Sometimes you can’t fast-track, you just need to wait.

6. Everything tastes better if you put some love into it.

This short story is about faith..!! Does miracles happen…? Yes, with unconditional faith on God, they do happen.. Let’s find out from the story if a 3yr old boy gets to experience it. In this short story, a little boy who is in deepest desire to save her sister who is badly suffering from some tumor in her head, hears from his father that, only MIRACLE can save his sister now. So, the little boy, broke open his kiddy bank and counted the money he has. Slowly moved on to the nearby medical store and asked the pharmacist “My sister is really sick, I want to get a MIRACLE for her, can you please tell me how much does a MIRACLE costs.?” Feeling heart broken by the boy’s story, the pharmacist softly replied, “Oh dear, I am so sorry, but we don’t sell MIRACLES here”. The boy said he has money to pay for it and if that isn’t enough, he can get more.

Standing next to the little boy, a tall well-dressed man saw this boy and asked him, “What kind of a miracle does your sister need?”, the boy said “I don’t know” with tears rolling down his cheeks. “I just know that she is very sick and something bad is growing inside her head, Doctor said she needs operation. But Dad can’t pay for it, so we need a MIRACLE to save her now. Please, I can use all of my money to save my sister.”

“How much money do you have?”, the man asked. “1 dollar and 12 cents, the boy answered barely, audibly. That’s all I have now, but I can get some more if needed”, he quickly added. The man said, “Wow! what a coincidence, 1 dollar and 12 cents is the exact price of a MIRACLE for a little sister.”

He took the boy’s money in 1 hand and with the other hand he gently held the boy’s hand and said “Take me to your sister, let’s see if I have the MIRACLE she needs”. That man was the director of a REPUTED HOSPITAL. He was just the right person to save the little girl’s life. The operation was completed without any charges and it wasn’t too long until the little boy’s sister was home again and doing well.

“That surgery”, his Mother whispered “it was a real MIRACLE. I wonder how much it would have cost?” That little boy smiled as he knew exactly how much a MIRACLE costs. (1 dollar and 12 cents plus the faith of an innocent child!)

This story has moved me when I read through…I hope the same with my fellow readers and colleagues

Hi,
Weekend gardening with my children can be a great way to teach them how plants grow, and how to live a more sustainable life. Gardening with my children can also boost their immune system and teach them at an early age how to live a more sustainable lifestyle.
Gardening with my children is more than just a fun activity
If you love to garden, you might have thought about sharing your hobby with your children. Gardening is an excellent activity for kids. It has sensory aspects, gets them outside in the dirt, and can teach them life lessons and some important science.
Thank you.

A-Determination and Self Restraint

For the last 30 days I have made amazing changes in my life and I’m striving to be a better, healthier me!
I’ve given up MEAT. It wasn’t easy in the beginning and I still want a good Philly Cheese Steak, lol but I’m proud to say that I’ve made this change & I’m happy about it. I have more energy, I try new and wonderful food combinations and I’m teaching skills to my kids while inspiring the rest of my family. I’ve lost weight, joined a gym and am much more open to things like meditation and self care retreats.
I’m thankful for the opportunity to try something new and thankful for the will power to stick with it.

Two ladies had passed out from the same School in their teens. Later they moved to different places and settled in life. After a long gap, they met in some hospital and the conversation starts like this
Sheela: How is your life? What’s your husband is doing? how much he is earning and what are all the assets you have bought? How much you could be able to save for your children
Maala: Yah all going Good, he is earning enough to keep us happy, we are in a happy home, my kids don’t accept any savings
It looks like irrelevant answers for Sheela
Maala: I came here to look after my In law as she is not keeping well and what are you doing here
Sheela: I could not able to sleep properly for a long time, I met many specialists but can’t able to find a solution for this. When I was at the age of 15 this issue popped up into my life, my father with his earnings could not able to treat it initially, seems this has reached to next stage and Doctors cant able to Treat it. I can’t do anything apart from blaming my father
Maala: Try this! For the next 6 months, you try to maintain family expenses with the same amount your father use to manage (let’s say no inflation). You may find it difficult but it’s possible
Sheela: Come on…Will it work? Anyways I have to catch my friends in a club Bye…

After Six Months, Sheela has reached Maala and broken into Tears. With her wet Eyes and low voice, she started saying. My father is so great that though he can’t effort to offer me 11th & 12th education(After SSC/Matriculation) he forced me to complete Graduation. Though he could not able to meet his Home loan EMI but bought me, Two Wheeler, for my Graduation with Extra EMI ! My Sleepless nights were due to my thoughts but not due to my Father’s helplessness

All these I got to know after checking with him how he managed while working hard and when I tried to meet expenses with the same earnings. For me, Every day is a challenge and I could able to meet cut-to-cut needs with my father’s help. In these 6 months I could able to sleep properly with immense satisfaction for meeting the ends

Over several months, I was struggling with balance of my overwhelming work needs and the needs of an ailing family member, especially as the holidays were fast approaching. My well-being was not a priority. After we laid our family member to rest, I had a moment to breathe personally and realized that I had been slowly losing weight. Although I was thrilled I had lost some weight, I still made an appointment to see my PCP. I was sure it was most likely stress-related. Thankfully she thought it would be best to get some testing done just to rule anything out. At 47, I wasn’t expecting the news I received. It has been 6 months since diagnosis and my health is my priority, above all else. The stress at work will always be there, but if we don’t take care of us, we won’t be there. Things I’ve learned-1)Put your own physical well-being first, above all the other static in life. 2)Listen to your body and stay on top of the recommended testing for your age group. 3)If your doctor won’t listen, find a doctor who will. My story would be very different if I had waited and if my doctor didn’t listen and act.

We enjoy fresh air and get to see wild animals and nature in all its seasons, which directly benefits our emotional wellbeing. After stationing overseas, it led me to lose over 15 kg; and when I had knee replacement (after years of trouble) the hiking helped me to be in good shape ahead of the operation and recover much more quickly after. A Story from Marius Potgieter

From South Africa on September 12, 2022
Physical Well-Being

On 28 August 2022, I completed the 95th running of the Comrades marathon, also known as the Ultimate Human Race. The Comrades marathon is a 90km ultra marathon, in which runners commemorate the soldiers who participated in World War 1, referred to as “Comrades”. Since 1921 runners annually get together to run between Pietermaritzburg and Durban, South Africa in an carnival atmosphere. This year 13,213 runners started in the dark at 05:30 in the Pietermaritzburg and had 12 hours to complete the grueling 90km race, ending in the iconic 2010-FIFA World Cup Moses Mabida stadium in Durban. In order to participate in the event, a runner need to qualify by completing a 42km ‘normal’ marathon in under 4 hours 50 minutes. This was my 1st attempt at Comrades and I prepared by completing 4 ‘normal’ marathons and 1 ultra marathon of 48km in the preceding 6 months. I am a 44 year ‘normal’ person, who started running at age 39 by competing in 5km fun-runs in June 2018. I gradually moved up to 10km, 21km and 42 km in 3 month increments and completed my 1st 42km marathon in May 2019. I was inspired seeing the +-21 000 Comrades runners in the 2019 edition slogging their way to the finish line, many dragging their bodies over the finish line, even crawling at the end in order to finish within the allotted 12 hours and get the infamous finishers medal. I wanted to be part of that group who proudly wear their Comrades finisher shirts, who discuss the route full of murderous hills, singing, dancing and waving crowds who align along the route with music, encouragement and laughs. I wanted to share in their stories of fighting fatigue, cramps, dehydration and inner demons to keep running to the end, despite your whole being telling you to stop!!! I am proud to say I trained by running 1 500km to prepare and completed the race in 9 hours 58 minutes as a novice and joined the 11,709 finishers in earning a Comrades medal. To complete this race was amongst the proudest moments I have ever had, and look forward to the 2023 edition in my 2nd attempt. The Comrades marathon is a special physical and emotional event which requires discipline, dedication, hard work and mental toughness. I challenge any ‘normal person’, who do not see themselves as a sporting talent, to start running. Become more health conscious, start dreaming of earning a medal (most 5km events also hand them out to finishers) and share in the magic of setting and achieving a goal which contributes so much to an improved body, a healthy mind. Aim to do something special like completing your own marathon challenge. Your shall reap the rewards at your own finishing line, I promise!

Q – what’s your superpower?
A – flying

Since Nov 2022, Stephen and I committed to try and develop a new skill and joined a gymnastic gym. At mid-30’s and mid- 40’s we had to tackle our fears as we had never done a somersault or a backflip. We chose the “fly-away” as our goal.
Nine months, later, after attending the gym every Wednesday evening, I am proud to say that, backflips were just the warm up and we both successfully complete a solid ‘fly-away’, without breaking any bones!
More importantly, we are feeling more relax, in better emotional and physical shape. We committed to our “tiny gains” approach, and most important, we are having very good fun doing something new each week.

Physical Well-Being

I would like to share my journey in becoming a GB Athlete this year, whilst being an AECOM graduate employee.

It all started 2 years ago – taking an industrial placement year in Hong Kong and taking up a sport that was completely out of my comfort zone – dragon boat! A popular water sport in Asia that consists of 10-20 members in a boat, rowing forward with a dragon boat paddle.
During the placement year, the sport slowly became a regular hobby – water training 2-3 times a week.
Upon joining AECOM in the UK last year, with its ‘flexible working’/’freedom to grow’ principles – I was able to pursue this sport further. I decided to challenge myself by pursuing the goal of entering the GB premier dragon boat team that were in preparation for the 2022 Euros Dragonboat Championship in Spain. I wanted to test my capabilities and see how far I could physically and mentally push myself.

After being successfully selected into the GB squad via time trials, the training schedule ramped up to 6 times a week (normally 2 water sessions in the weekend and 4 gym/strength & conditioning/cardio land sessions during weekdays). There were several occasions where I questioned myself and the decisions made – but in the end ultimately knew that I was there for my teammates, the coach, and the shirt I was representing.
A few days before this post marked the end of the 2022 Euros Dragonboat Championship chapter, and even though no medals were achieved (4th place overall) – what an unforgettable experience it has been!

Time to prepare and improve for next year!

Lesson: Take on new challenges – not only do you learn a lot about yourself but also from others that are around (teammates, colleagues, coaches etc.).

Anxiety is a feeling of unease, such as worry or fear, that can be mild or severe. My anxiety started from a young age, I started having anxiety at night then it continued throughout the day, teachers told my mum I was hyperactive and being silly in lessons, little did they know it was my coping mechanism for anxiety, I would laugh, make a joke, do something silly just to distract away from what was really happening – fear! a fear of not being liked, a fear of not getting it right, a fear of failing and not being in control. It wasn’t until my exams that my anxiety was out of control and something needed to be done, walking the halls one day a school my favorite teacher picked up that something was not right and we went off to the staff room and she poured me a juice and even offered me one of the headteachers favorite biscuits (so she said :0) and listened and it all came pouring out and relief was instant, the teacher and my mum spoke and I was referred for CBT which was fantastic and really helped me understand my anxiety and that its ok! I will always live with anxiety but now I know how to live and accept it with the resources and support around me from anxiety groups, EAP always on hand when needed. Thanks for taking the time to read my story

Friends and family from Europe tell me how lucky I am to live in Australia.
“You live in paradise” they say.

When driving across the Storey Bridge, the view of the Brisbane skyline was always pointed out by my passenger.

My relationship of 9 years ended late last year.
From this major life change, I’ve been on a journey of self-development and well-being that has allowed me to rediscover who I really am and what I really need from life.
I’ve made an effort to be vulnerable and avoid the typical reply “I’m good” when someone asks how you are. I’m now saying how I’m really feeling. I’ve been open with my team on days when I haven’t been feeling good or when I’ve been dealing with an emotional challenge.
My headspace has been kept stronger through daily meditation, listing to inspirational podcasts, speaking to a therapist weekly and keeping up with regular yoga and exercise.
A key thing this journey has made me realise so deeply is that being in nature is my true happy place and an essential part of my life. I’ve since prioritised spending time outdoors and sometimes doing this alone to allow quality time to reflect, replenish and release. These solo moments in nature have really helped clarify what the me in true alignment looks like.
I’m so grateful for the growth and self-development I’ve experienced in the past months and the positive change I’m feeling.
It is so uplifting to look inwards to understand limiting beliefs and make small changes towards alignment with your true self.
I’m feeling so excited for the next steps of this journey – as long as you’ve got a heartbeat, you can grow and develop.

Just a bit about me really and what led me to where I am today.
I left school early and went straight into the working world. I have done many different jobs from my first job as a roadie to being a postman to manual site labour.
I started working with the site surveyors as a “Chain Man” and from there I learnt how to use theodolites and dumpy levels to carry out surveys and perform dimensional control tasks (setting out as it is often referred to).
From there I became a self employed Site Engineer and did this for 10+ years until I began working for a company called Scott Wilson who were then bought out by URS and then by AECOM. Not long after AECOM took over from URS I was encouraged to apply for a full time position within AECOM doing the same job but with the added benefits that came with being an AECOM employee.
Not long after I started with AECOM I was encouraged to get my Civil Engineering Batchelors Degree by attending a local University one day a week.

The lesson I am trying to pass on here is that it is never to late to take on a new challenge or to change something you wish that maybe you had done back when you were just starting out. I am 45 this year (13th of this month to be precise) and I am now in the final 5th year of that degree which is also ran in tandem with the Institution of Civil Engineers meaning I will also become an Incorporated member of the ICE. Meaning that this time next year I will be in a much better position, career wise, than I have been over the last 20+ years of my working life in the industry. I have already been appointed as Deputy Project Manager and my career has come on in leaps and bounds since becoming a fill time employee.
Progress that I could not have made had I not had the support of my line managers and AECOM corporate as an AECOM employee.

It is never too late!!
